Emotional Telepresence

Emotion Telepresence is a speculative design project that imagines a future where digital users can sense the emotions of others who have come across the same digital content.

My Role: UX Designer in team of three

Duration: 3 Days (March 6 2026 -March 9 2026)

Purpose: Submitted this project in the annual student design-a-thon hosted by Figma.

Design Prompt

The design prompt emphasized speculative design, and human senses as the inclusion criteria in our design.

Goal

We’re designing a shared digital experience to navigate emotions for socially isolated users.

Background

Imagine a future where tiny neural chips allow people to see and interact with digital environments directly through their minds.

Screens are no longer physical. Instead, digital spaces exist invisibly around us, layered on top of the world and visible only to the person experiencing them.

Product

Triggers, Sensors, & Outputs

  • Neurochip detects a specific emotional state

  • Neurochip detects eye gaze as it remains fixed for a certain time

  • Interface displays voice notes recorded by other users who felt the same way as the user

  • Interface response of emotional sound cues correlated with user emotion to create an immersive atmosphere

  • Interface displays the emotional map of past users at that specific point in the user journey

Social & Mental Wellness

Users are able to feel less isolated in a world that is continually becoming more and more fragmented. Users are not only able to learn from others’ experience in a shared digital space, but validate their feelings at they move through a digital space. This is literally the idea of stepping in others’ shoes to experience the digital world as they see it as a way to help the user navigate the space.
